New SQL2005 SP2

Hi,
Bink is saying there is a new version of SP2 http://bink.nu/Article9653.bink
The download site now shows version 9.00.3042.01 dated 3/5/2007. It sounds
like this version fixes the fact that maintenance plan cleanup tasks now
change from days to hours. This change has been talked about here before.
Any one having any newer information on the change?
Thanks

New Sql Server Cluster Install

Everyone,
I'm installing SQL Server 2000 SP2 virtual server onto a Windows 2003
Cluster. The install process seems to install sql server fine on both
machines, however when the installer gets to creating the virtual resources
the install fails after about 5 to 10 minutes. I've looked at the sql logs
that are generated by the install and the only error code I see that is not 0
is an error trying to load a dll. After the install fails the installer
proceeds to uninstall all files and shortcuts from both nodes. I'm thinking
this has something to do with Windows 2003 not allowing anything less than
sp3 to start. Can anyone help clarify this for me. I've searched google and
have found many articles and kb about other issues but none so far that look
like this one. If this is caused by the sp3 issues is there a workaround or
is there a way to get an install CD of SQL Server 2000 with SP3.
Thanks!
ST
Hi
Installing sp2 is no problem unless you don't patch it to sp3a after the
install completes.
Make sure you have gone through the check lists on
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pro.../failclus.mspx

information on this.
Unless you are running tsql debugger in your clustered (production?)
environment, I doubt you would need this.
What components are you selecting in your install? Are you installing the
developers resources and code samples? It seems to me that this component is
probably installed with them as opposed to the default installation set.

|||Figured out the problem. I had taken the MSDTC offline per a step-by-step
provided by a sql server website. This was incorrect in my situation. Once I
brought the MSDTC online the install was successful. Additionally to apply
SP3 I had to manually bring the sql virtual server online before running the
sp3 setup.

New SQL Express

I am working with Microsoft Office Access 2003 on MSWXP Professional SP2. In attempting to open one of the sample database projects that come with Access 2003, NorthwindCS.adp, I get the following message: "Microsoft Access could not find either Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine or Microsoft SQL Server installed on your computer. Click OK to display the Data Link Properties dialog box and log on to a remote server. If you want to install SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine on this computer first, click Cancel, install it from the MSDE2000 folder on the Office CD-ROM, and then reopen this Access project". Instead of downloading & installing the Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine, I downloaded & installed the SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP1 instead. After having restarted the computer and relaunching Access 2003 & opening the NorthwindCS.adp I still get the same message as mentioned previously above. My question is can the SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP1 be used or must the SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine be used instead. I understand that running Microsoft Windows Vista must use the SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP1 but I am running MSWXP Professional SP2 instead. Advise?

Hi,

AFAIC remember 2003 ADP projects are not fully supported / working in conjunction with SQL Server Express even with t the compt. settings changed.

New SP2 Excel Render Bug (Excel Formulas)

Hi,
I have a report that converts expression to Excel formulas. The Excel
formulas in a table are incorrectly rendered in a way that the references
are all off by 6 or so cells. When I set the "Omit Formulas" device setting
to true the values are correct, though there are no formulas. I don't
remember this failure in SP1.
Thanks,
Bryan
PS. Is there a way to make "OmitFormulas=true" static when the request is
made from the report manager?BTW, This bug only happens when requesting the render from the report
server. It doesn't happen in VS.NET.

available with SQL 2000. As for the bug, nothing has changed in this area so
I would imagine it happened with SP1 as well.

New SP2 Client Install Failure

Hi,
I have successfully upgraded a server with both the new SP2 and the 3050
hotfix. I am now trying to do this to my client workstation. It selected the
following components on my SQL2005 SP1 client to upgrade.
Setup Support Files
SQL Server Native Client
Client Components
MSXML 6.0 Parser
SQLXML4
Backward Compatibility
The client component upgrade failed on
Microsoft.sqlserver.notificationservices.dll. I had an error code 1603 and
this in the hotfix.log
MSP Error: 29549 Failed to install and configure assemblies c:\Program
Files\Microsoft SQL
Server\90\NotificationServices\9.0.242\Bin\microso ft.sqlserver.notificationservices.dll
in the COM+ catalog. Error: -2146233087
Error message: Unknown error 0x80131501
Error description: The Transaction Manager is not available. (Exception from
HRESULT: 0x8004D01B)
Any ideas?
Thanks
Chris
I found the answer on Connect. You need to have DTC running for the update
to finish.

New Production Server - Orphaned Users

Hi,
I have to move 5 databases from an old production server to a new production
server.
Old Production Server: Win 2K Server, SQL 2000 SP2
New Production Server:Win 2K3 Server, SQL 2000 SP4
I am creating the new server from scratch. Since I can't run SQL Server SP2
on Win 2K3 OS, I have a Staging Server running Win 2K and SQL 2000 SP2.
I backed up system databases on Old Production server and restored them on
Staging and applied SP4 to the Staging server. Then I backed up system
databases on Staging and restored them on New Production Server since both of
them are now at the same Service Pack Level. I have to do it this way to
avoid applying SP4 directly to the old Production server.
Then I detached and attached the User databases on the New Production server
from Old Production server. My question is - would I still have orphaned
users? Thanks in advance. If I followed your chain correctly, you basically took your system databases from a to b to c. Then
you take your user databases from a to c. This should mean that the logins exists with correct SID -
i.e., no orphaned users.

new local printing with "error on page"

Hallo
I have a problem with local printing with SP2. As administrator I can
press the new button and receive the question about Security and then
the ActiveX Control RSClientPrint is installed.
As an ordinary user I receive an error on page. "Object doesn't support
this property or method" and the ActiveX Control isn't installed.
Has anybody a good idea how I can install the Control on a computer as
user and not as administrator?
Thanks! This is not a RS issue, but one to do with the permissions granted to
oridnary users, possibly through your Group profile. You could have a look
in IE at the Custom Level Security Settings under "Internet Options" but if
you are in a work environment you need to speak to the network admins. If
you are the network admin, try posting in their group. If this has only
happened since installing SP2 go back to the Security Settings for ActiveX
controls and have a look at the settings.

New Installation of SQL Server 2000

Hi,
I installed sql server 2000 sp2 standard edition on Windows 2003, when
installing, it said "This version is not support on this os", but I was told
to continue installing the software and that I could install the latest
security patches to bring it up to date. Will that work? Do I need to do
anything else? SQL Server 2000 is up and running on the box. When running
the statement " select @.@.version" it informed me that I was at 8.00.194
patch level. How can I tell if SQL Server 2000 is 32 or 64 bit? I was
trying to download the lasted patch and it asked for that info. Thanks.--

You didn't install SQL 2000 SP2. You installed SQL 2000 RTM (v194). The
installation program at the point SQL 2000 RTM was released didn't know
about Win2K3 and is giving you the error.
Install SP3a on the server and you should be ready to go.

You didn't install SQL 2000 SP2. You installed SQL 2000 RTM (v194). The
installation program at the point SQL 2000 RTM was released didn't know
about Win2K3 and is giving you the error.
Install SP3a on the server and you should be ready to go.

New Installation of Sql Server 2000

Hello Guru's, I need your help!

I installed sql server 2000 sp2 standard edition on Windows 2003, when
installing, it said "This version is not supported on this os", but I was told
to continue installing the software and that I could install the latest
security patches to bring it up to date.
Thanks.--
New to SQL ServerUnless you paid over $20,000 for SQL Server, it is probably 32 bit. I think the 64 bit version of SQL server states in @.@.version that it is 64 bit, so if you do not see anything, you very likely have 32 bit.

You need SQL Server SP3 to run on Windows 2003 with no problems. Just download the patch, run it, and you should be all set.|||Thank You Very Much!!! :)
